Loud Diesel Knock / Rail Pressure Alarm
Variant 1
System
Fuel System
Symptom
Loud Diesel Knock / Rail Pressure Alarm
Diagnosis & fix steps
LOGIC: Fuel Rail Pressure Too High (HPCR Over-Pressure).
ACTION: Measure Fuel Metering Unit / Suction Control Valve (SCV) internal resistance (~2.1Ω). Inspect SCV plunger face for fuel varnish scoring or sticking; replace with revised long-body SCV.
Red Seal field insights
SCV Sticking: High ambient heat combined with low-lubricity bulk fuel scores the SCV sliding valve piston, causing it to stick open and spiking common rail pressures above 1,800 bar.
Variant 2
System
Fuel System
Symptom
Engine Limp Mode / Surging
Diagnosis & fix steps
LOGIC: Common Rail Pressure Too High.
ACTION: Inspect the Suction Control Valve (SCV) on the high-pressure pump for sticking.
Red Seal field insights
Specs: Rail pressure exceeding 200MPa.
PRO-TIP: Common if the fuel is contaminated. Clean the SCV or replace it; don't just clear the code.
