Fuel System

Symptom

Hard Engine Knock / Black Smoke

Diagnosis & fix steps

LOGIC: Fuel Rail Pressure Sensor Circuit High Voltage (Open Ground). ACTION: Measure voltage across the rail pressure sensor plug (Signal should read ~0.5V key-on engine off). Trace sensor ground wire back to ECU for broken harness pins.

Red Seal field insights

Open Signal Ceiling: Loss of sensor ground pins signal voltage to 5.0V, tricking the ECU into registering max rail pressure (~2,000 bar) and leaning out pump delivery.
