Check Engine Light / AC Light Blinks
Variant 1
System
Climate Control (HVAC)
Symptom
Check Engine Light / AC Light Blinks
Diagnosis & fix steps
LOGIC: Solar Sensor Circuit Malfunction (Passenger Side).
ACTION: Ignore this code if diagnosing inside a dark shop bay. Roll the vehicle out into absolute direct sunlight and verify the sensor voltage output climbs past 1.5V.
Red Seal field insights
Ambient False Alarm: Photovoltaic solar sensors drop resistance under solar rays; a low-light environment mimics an open circuit, prompting a false logic flag.
Variant 2
System
Climate / Sensors
Symptom
Stored Historical DTC in A/C Module
Diagnosis & fix steps
LOGIC: Solar Sensor Circuit (Passenger Side) Open or Normal in Shade.
ACTION: Do NOT replace sensor if troubleshooting indoors. Expose windshield directly to bright sunlight and recheck live data; if reading remains 0 W/m², test 5V supply and photodiode signal.
Red Seal field insights
The False Flag: This code sets on nearly 100% of Toyota vehicles scanned inside a garage or shop bay because the photodiode registers zero lumens. Only a valid fault under direct sun.
