Symptom
Turbo "Whine" or "Whoosh" sound; Sudden loss of power; Black smoke.
Diagnosis & fix steps
Turbocharger Overboost Condition.
LOGIC: Actual boost exceeds commanded boost. Usually a mechanical failure of the wastegate or VGT vanes.
ACTION: 1. Check VGT actuator linkage for binding.
2. Inspect wastegate solenoid for sticking.
3. Check boost sensor for "drift" (reading high at idle).
FIX: Replace VGT Actuator or Turbocharger assembly; clean/replace boost sensor.
Red Seal field insights
Check the small rubber signal line going to the wastegate. If it’s cracked or blown off, the wastegate won't open, causing an overboost.
