Diagnosis & fix steps

LOGIC: Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Reed Switch Signal Missing. ACTION: Remove instrument cluster or transmission tailhousing speed pickup. On cable-driven models, test the magnetic reed switch behind speedometer head; on electronic models, check 3-pin Hall-effect sensor.

Cable Core Break: On older chassis, a broken mechanical speedometer cable halts the spinning magnet inside the gauge cluster, killing the 4-pulse reed switch signal to the ECU.
