Hard Crank / Engine Misfires / Limp Mode

Diagnosis & fix steps

LOGIC: Camshaft Position Sensor (CMP) Phase Angle Drift / Loss of Signal. ACTION: Disconnect CMP sensor on upper timing cover. Clean magnetic iron sludge from sensor face. Measure internal coil resistance (~950–1,250Ω) and inspect 3-wire harness for chafing against the alternator mounting bracket.

Red Seal field insights

Vibration Fretting: Heavy four-cylinder diesel harmonics shake the CMP pigtail connector; loose terminal pin tension causes intermittent phase signal drops during sudden throttle snaps.
