Speedometer reads zero; "ABS" light on; Transmission won't shift out of 1st gear.
Diagnosis & fix steps
Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Low Input.
LOGIC: The ECU has lost the pulse signal from the transmission speed sensor or the ABS module.
ACTION: 1. Inspect the sensor on the transfer case/tail-shaft.
2. Check wiring for damage from off-road debris.
3. Check the "Speedo" fuse.
FIX: Replace Speed Sensor or repair broken wiring in the chassis harness.
Red Seal field insights
On 4WD models, the wiring to the speed sensor is often snagged by brush or mud. Look for "tug" damage near the connector at the back of the gearbox.
