Symptom
Rough shifting; Transmission "hunting" between gears; "Service Trans" light.
Diagnosis & fix steps
Transmission Output Speed Sensor Signal Lost.
LOGIC: The transmission controller sees engine RPM but 0 output speed while in gear.
ACTION: 1. Inspect the sensor on the output shaft of the Dana/Spicer transmission.
2. Check for "magnetic fuzz" on the sensor tip.
3. Check for wire damage from falling rock/debris.
FIX: Clean the sensor tip or replace the Output Speed Sensor.
Red Seal field insights
The sensor is magnetic and will pick up tiny metal shavings from normal gear wear. Often, just pulling the sensor and wiping it clean with a rag will get the machine back to work for the rest of the shift.
