Symptom
Fan running at max speed; Cold start enrichment active while hot; High temp alarm.
Diagnosis & fix steps
Coolant Temp Sensor Voltage High.
LOGIC: Signal > 4.5V (Open Circuit). The ECM assumes a "fail-safe" cold value, causing the engine to over-fuel and the fan to lock on.
ACTION: 1. Unplug sensor and bridge pins (Jumper Test). If code changes to FMI 4, wiring is good.
2. Inspect the harness where it passes near the thermostat housing.
FIX: Replace Coolant Temp Sensor or repair wire break at the plug.
Red Seal field insights
Scania DC16s use the coolant temp to control the oil cooler bypass. If this sensor fails, your oil temps can climb because the ECM doesn't know the engine is warm enough to open the cooler flow.
