Diagnosis & fix steps

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) Fault. LOGIC: Loss of pulse signal to ECM. ACTION: Check wiring at the transmission. FIX: Replace VSS Sensor.

Diagnosis & fix steps

Vehicle Speed Sensor (VSS) "A" Malfunction. LOGIC: The ECM loses the pulse signal from the transmission or the ABS hub sensors. ACTION: 1. Check the sensor on the tail-shaft of the transmission. 2. Inspect wiring for rodent damage (common in rural Asia). FIX: Replace Speed Sensor or repair harness.

On many Hilux models, the speed signal goes to the Cluster first, then to the ECM. If your dash is cracked or has "cold solder" joints, it can kill the VSS signal to the engine.

LOGIC: Vehicle Speed Sensor "A" Circuit Malfunction. ACTION: Inspect ABS wheel speed sensor wire harnesses near the rear leaf spring suspension perches for snagging by bush branches or gravel impact damage.
