Diagnosis & fix steps

LOGIC: Actuator Supply Voltage "A" Circuit / Open (5R110W Solenoid Power). ACTION: Check the harness bulkhead connector at the passenger side of the transmission case for fluid intrusion or loose pins. Perform a voltage drop test on the main power supply circuit wire (typically Pin 4, Red/Yellow or Solid Red) at the transmission plug while cycling the key. Inspect the transmission power relay and its dedicated fuse in the under-hood central junction box.

Red Seal field insights

Circuit Physics: The Powertrain Control Module (PCM/TCM) monitors the high-side power supply line that feeds constant battery voltage to the shift solenoids (SSPC, SSD, SSE) and pressure control solenoids (PC-A, PC-B). When this loop drops to 0V due to a blown fuse, bad relay, or broken wiring trace in the external loom, the PCM cuts all ground gating and defaults the unit straight into mechanical 5th gear limp-home mode.
