System

Komatsu (Monitor)

Symptom

Battery not charging; Lights dim; Low voltage alarms.

Diagnosis & fix steps

Alternator R-Terminal Abnormal. LOGIC: The controller is not seeing the "Charge" signal from the alternator while the engine is running. ACTION: 1. Check the "R" terminal wire (usually a small wire) for a break. 2. Check the fan belt tension. FIX: Repair the R-terminal wire pigtail or replace the Alternator.

Red Seal field insights

On Komatsu, the "R" terminal tells the computer the engine is actually turning. If this wire breaks, the machine might not allow the AC to turn on or the auto-lube to fire, even if the alternator is still technically charging the batteries.
