Symptom

Slow boost response; Excessive black smoke on acceleration.

Diagnosis & fix steps

Turbocharger Vane Position "Slow Response". LOGIC: The VGT vanes are moving, but too slowly, usually due to carbon "coking" in the turbo housing. ACTION: 1. Check VGT actuator for full travel. 2. Inspect for exhaust leaks at the manifold (warped manifold). FIX: Clean/Replace Turbocharger; replace warped exhaust manifold.

Red Seal field insights

The 6.7L exhaust manifold is notorious for shrinking/warping, which can put stress on the turbo housing and cause the internal vanes to bind.
